Daibetes essays There are two different kinds of Diabetes, Diabetes Mellitus and Diabetes Insipidus. Diabetes Mellitus is the common one of the two. It occurs when the pancreas doesn't produce enough hormone called insulin. Diabes Insipidus is when the posterior lobe of the pituitary gland doesn't function well. Diabetes Mellitus is caused by large amounts of sugar in the blood and urine. Other symptoms include loss of weight, strength, great thirst and passing large amounts of urine. The disease also causes poor blood circulation, all loss of limbs and cann effect the heart, eyes, kidneys and endanger pregnancy. Diabetes is not contagious however a family history of diabetes puts and individual at high risk. This disease can affect men, women and children but females develop diabetes twice as much as males. About five percent of the United States, or ten-twelve Most Diabetes cases are uncurable. Diabetes can be controlled by a careful diet and insulin injections which can be administered in the stomach, arms and legs. Patients should keep a record of their blood sugar levels, weight and diet. Mild Diabetes patients can be treated strictly with a good diet and drugs. The safest drug is tolbutamide. Most drugs taken by mouth are destroyed in the digestive system. Diabetes Insipidus is excessive passing of urine and the patient becomes very dehydrated.
